The art retreat with Wendy Sharpe from 4th to the 13th of December 2011 was the most amazing experience combining travel with improving one's skills. Wendy was such a generous teacher who took time to help each person achieve their potential. Luang Probang was an exceptional place to visit and to draw and paint. It is completely unspoilt and on a long archipelago between two rivers. It was possible to walk from one side of the town to the other in a short time. We experienced the spirituality of the Buddhist experience, the wonders of the countryside, the delights of the river and the markets as well as fine dining for a very small cost. Ruth Rich organised this event with minimal fuss and it ran smoothly and efficiently. I would not hesitate to go on one of Ruth's retreats again. Wendy was inspiring and has led me into new visions of my own art making.

This was probably the most rewarding, exciting, nurturing and stimulating workshop I have attended. There were 15 students passionate about artmaking, with varying experiences and backgrounds. Michael is an absolutely outstanding teacher with the ability to nurture a safe yet stimulating creative environment.
Regular morning discussions to warm up the day gave people confidence, goals and the spirit to create.
Personal attention was generous and tailored to the individual with such insight that I feel we all felt inspired to take the risks necessary to move forward in our personal practice. The final artworks varied enormously in style and media, a tribute I feel to a compassionate teacher.
We learned to appreciate each other and to honour each other’s struggles. It was a warm, juicily creative group that emerged with very much respect and fondness for our great teacher/ facilitator. Michael you ROCK!!

I went into the Marrakech retreat as a colourblind writer with a very limited idea of how to draw or paint. I came out of it ten days later as a colourblind writer with a sketchbook full of drawings and a handful of paintings that I never thought I could produce (and a couple of stories I was happy with, too). More importantly, thanks to writer/guide Anthony Sattin and artist Tim Maguire, we experienced Marrakech in a much deeper and richer way than if each of us had done it alone. They taught the group how to get the most out of this amazing place, and then helped us interpret it for ourselves, expressing our experiences in words and images.

It was a great retreat. I loved it and the others participants were all wonderful. Elizabeth was a darling to us all. You too cared for us so well Ruth... so thanks heaps again! The studio was brilliant for light/space and ventilation.

The painting experience of having the studio available day and night was really beneficial for the creative process. It encouraged me to try to capture unique qualities the beautiful Tuscan landscape
I am so thrilled that I joined the group and was a part of it.
I am still glowing

The hustle and bustle of Marrakech, Anthony Sattin, travel writer and great raconteur, Tim Maguire world renown artist and Ruth Rich, our host, what a great combination!
The Marrakech art retreat would be without a doubt one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had.
From the very beginning we where greeted by the charming Ruth, who had organized the whole retreat to a T. AS well as Anthony, travel writer supreme. We where enthralled by his wonderful stories, especially relating to the history of Morocco. Then of course we where graced by Tim Maguire, one of my all time favorite artists. Under his guidance and supervision I’ve discovered a totally new way of painting.
All in all an experience not to be missed.

I will never forget this journey – taken on my 50th birthday, nor the people who made it such a memorable experience. Many thanks for your thoughtfulness and generous spirit, and to Elisabeth for being such a treasure.
