AUSTRALIA 2011
BYRON BAY 12–16 AUGUST
PERSONAL SONGLINES
With MICHAEL TAYLOR
Venue - Coorabell Hall
This retreat is about exploring one’s inner landscape in all of its colours, shades and images – that arise between our dreams and reality.
Michael deftly shows us how to journey to that mysterious place and discover the layers of imagery that we occupy.
Through an expressive process you will explore the edge of the known and unknown, take creative risks that offer revelations, and glimpse a personal truth that will forever change the way you make art.
An insightful and dedicated teacher who has inspired many with their art practice for over 40 years, Michael has also won many art prizes and is represented by established galleries. His work examines the essence of human relationships, personal & spiritual values, and seeks to find a balance between reality and illusion. He can help each student examine new ideas, modes, and direction.
Attention will be on the handling of materials, whether charcoal, pastel, oil or acrylic or a combination.Emphasis will be on the expressive use of colour.
Demonstrations will be given to individual students when required. It is hoped each student will complete at least three works.
“This was probably the most rewarding, exciting, nurturing and stimulating workshop I have attended. There were 15 students passionate about artmaking, with varying experiences and backgrounds. Michael is an absolutely outstanding teacher with the ability to nurture a safe yet stimulating creative environment. Regular morning discussions to warm up the day gave people confidence, goals and the spirit to create. Personal attention was generous and tailored to the individual with such insight that I feel we all felt inspired to take the risks necessary to move forward in our personal practice. The final artworks varied enormously in style and media, a tribute I feel to a compassionate teacher. We learned to appreciate each other and to honour each other’s struggles. It was a warm, juicily creative group that emerged with very much respect and fondness for our great teacher/ facilitator. Michael you ROCK!! “ Annie Roberts Trinity Art Teacher 2010
