PARIS THROUGH ARTISTS’ EYES With WENDY SHARPE & BERNARD OLLIS
Paris is one of the richest and most vibrant cities in the world, filled with an incredible concentration of galleries and museums dating back hundreds of years. Add to this a backdrop of magnificent avenues and historical streets, monuments and churches, and it’s no surprise that Paris has always been an artistic Mecca.
Join accomplished artists Wendy Sharpe and Bernard Ollis who will take you on a tour of their favourite galleries and museums in Paris — seen from an artists’ viewpoint. We will be sketching and making works on paper — in pencil, watercolour, gouache and pastel — taking photographs, working en plein air in beautiful locations around the city, and later discussing our work in supportive critique sessions.
Wendy is one of Australia’s most awarded artists, with the Archibald Prize, the Sulman Prize, Portia Geach Prize (twice), and numerous other awards.
Among her career highlights: a commission as an official artist by the Australian War Memorial, Canberra; an Olympic pool-size mural for Cook and Philip Park Pool in Sydney; and a commission to draw the Australian Ballet.
She exhibits in galleries throughout Australia, and is collected worldwide.
Bernard has a long and distinguished career as an artist and art educator. He has had over 40 solo exhibitions throughout Australia and Europe, has work exhibited in most state and regional galleries, has collections throughout Australia, and for 11 years was the Director of the National Art School.
At various times in their separate careers, Wendy and Bernard were awarded scholarships to paint in Paris at the Cité Internationale des Arts. Shortly after leaving art school, Wendy took her first residency at the Art Gallery of NSW Studio in Paris
As a young artist in London, Bernard was awarded the Royal College of Art London studio in Paris.
Over the decades, Wendy and Bernard have been inexorably drawn back to Paris, enjoying a creative love affair with the city that has lasted to this day.
Both artists are enthusiastic and generous facilitators, sharing their vast knowledge of art history, art practice, and their own energy in this unique art retreat and tour.
Retreat participants are advised that due to the nature of the retreat, please come prepared for a great deal of walking, and bring your walking shoes for your grandest Paris adventure.
We will be staying at the famous Hôtel du Louvre an elegant boutique hotel whose four facades regard the Louvre Museum, the Opera Garnier, the Comedie Francaise and the Place due Palais Royal. Modelled in classic Napoleonic style yet offering all modern amenities. Hotel du Louvre is the quintessential Paris hotel experience for international art retreatants! http://www.hoteldulouvre.com/en/
